Sound Practical

We chose to use the video clip of fighting for our sound practical. We chose this because we saw good opportunities to create our own foley sounds and also we knew of many garage band effects that would go well with the clip.

We began by creating our own foley effects. We used Kieran's voice to create a sound effect which we used to be placed over a relevant part of the clip.

We selected the sound effects that we felt were most appropriate for the clip and dragged them into the sound editor. Next we selected an appropriate soundtrack. Once all of the sounds we needed were placed in and we felt it was complete, we saved our work.

Overall we feel that our sound practical went quite well. Every sound fit well and was relevent to the clip. If we could change anything then we would have created more of our own foley sounds and maybe created our own sound of fighting, if we had the time.

Sarah's old prelim task

I filmed my prelim task in a different group to the one I filmed the thriller opening to, the old blog is this:

The prelim task: http://foundationportfolio1474.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/our-final-prelim-product.html

During this prelim I helped with experiementing with camera angles, lighting choices and the development and reasearch that went in to creating the prelim task.

Editing Decisions

When editing our clips we encountered a couple of problems - one of these being that after the clips had been edited the length was only around 30-40 secs and we had no more time to film any additional clips.

We decided to use a fade out after the most climatic scene to build tension and keep the theme of a thriller.

We decided to use Adele's 'hometown glory' instrumental version as we felt it fit the scene.

Risk assessment

Risk assessment

The area in which we filmed had several potential risks.
We filmed next to stairs which meant that if we weren't careful someone could've had an accident.
We used the corridor doors which could've opened out onto someone else or someone could have not seen us when walking through.

We overcame these problems by taking extra care and being aware of our surroundings whilst filming.

Animatic of storyboard

Filming evaluation - Hannah

We originally intended to film in a classroom as we storyboarded our characters as sitting. However due to the circumstances we had to adapt our film so that the characters were standing.

Problems we encountered looking back at the footage was the we filmed in front of a window which meant the light kept changing, making some scenes brighter than others. We could have fixed this problem by making sure to constantly check the white balance.

We think that the continuity of the film was really good. We think that our match on action and our shot reverse shot were successful and we stuck to the 180 degree rule.

Pre-filming planning - Hannah

We created a story board to plan our sequence. This helped us as we all knew what we were doing and made it easier for us to know what we were doing. We then filmed the storyboard and edited it together. This saved us a lot of time.

We then wrote out our script and rehearsed it so we'd be ready for when we actually filmed.

We planned our location, costumes and props all in preparation to be filmed.
